Lewis C Mccomb Sr.

McComb-Lewis C. McComb Sr. passed away on October 24, 2016. He was born in Monterey Park, CA. on December 20, 1923, but lived in the East Mountains for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene (Miller) McComb; his parents, Paul W. McComb Sr. and Leona V. (Willey) McComb; an infant son, Lawrence Jackie McComb; sister, Pauline Kelton and husband Tom; Marion Kelton and husband John; Louise Cherry and husband Aubrey; and a sister-in-law, Beverly McComb. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Jesse Rogers of the family home; his son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Jr. and Dora McComb of the South Valley; brothers, Paul McComb Jr. of Albuquerque; and Joseph Allen (Choppo) McComb and wife Wyoma of Moriarty; a sister, Evelyn Ray and husband Dick of John Day, Oregon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lewis was a member of the Forest Meadow Baptist Church in the East Mountains; a member of the Mountain Valley Cemetery Association; and a lifetime member of the East Mountain Historical Society. For many years before and after retirement, he was involved with the U.S. Department of Agriculture ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service). Lewis graduated from Moriarty High School then proudly served in the Army Air Corps as a C-46 and C-47 pilot with the 433rd Troop Carrier Group in the South Pacific during World War II and was later in the Air Force reserves until 1958. Lewis retired from the State Highway Department (Tijeras Patrol) in 1985 and spent his time during his retirement years raising cattle, gardening, genealogy, playing music, and doing many other hobbies and activities. He especially enjoyed getting ready for winter by cutting and splitting wood on his place. He was very active in his life up until about 3 years before his death. There will be a viewing on Friday October 28, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at the Harris Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM. The Funeral Service will be held at the Forrest Meadow Baptist Church at #54 Highway 217, Tijeras, New Mexico on Saturday October 29, 2016 at 10:45 A.M. with Pastor Tom Lambert officiating. The Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery in Barton, NM.
