Melba M. Vigil, 78, passed away on May 26, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on September 24, 1937 in Torreon, NM to the late Antonio and Concepcion (Vigil) Chavez. On June 13, 1959 in Manzano, NM she married the love of her life, Ernie Vigil. Melba was a lifetime resident of Torrance County, NM. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary for the American Legion Post 22 and loved to paint, bake and cook. Melba was known and loved for her willingness to help others with absolutely no hesitation. She was always ready to help no matter what the cause. Her smile and good hearted soul was a blessing to all who knew her. Melba was a God loving women and her passion was her family and her love for her religion. She is also preceded in death by several brothers and sister. Melba is survived and forever remembered by her loving husband, Ernie Vigil; sons and daughters in law, Charles Vigil, John Ray and Amy Vigil and Gregory and Diana Vigil; daughter, Leslie Chavez; brothers, Joe F. Chavez and Tony Chavez; sister, Amalia Tafoya as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Melba was blessed with 7 beautiful grandchildren, Stacey Young, Brittney Vigil, Emily Young, Joseph Chavez, Amber Chavez, Samuel Vigil and Joshua Vigil. A Rosary is to be recited on June 1, 2016 at 6:30 P.M. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Torreon, NM. The Celebration of Mass will be on Thursday June 2, 2016 at 10:30. Father Vincent Chavez to Officiate. Pallbearers will be all 7 of Melba’s grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers are Joseph Garcia and Leo Chavez. Interment will be at the Torreon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, New Mexico.
