Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Richter

September 27, 1917 — May 6, 2016

Elizabeth “Betty” Richter, 98, peacefully returned to God on Friday, May 6th, 2016. Mom was blessed to pass in the company of her immediate family who were present at her bedside. She was born in Manhattan on September 27, 1917 to the late Arthur and Elizabeth McQuillan. Her working life wove through Woolworth’s Department store, owning a candy store where she delighted the local children, owning a neighborhood restaurant and bar and working in the local public school where she befriended all the children. She came to Edgewood in the early 1970’s to settle here with her husband, John “Jack” Richter, who adored her. Betty was a wonderfully devout Catholic who devoted her life to all members of her family and especially to the upbringing and care of her children. Her great faith guided her through the passing of two children and her two husbands. Her passion for baking resulted in cookies, cakes and pies being gifted to friends and neighbors throughout the years and especially during the holidays! She respected and loved all livings things and many a stray cat and dog who ended up in her company would happily testify to this. She truly lived from her heart and touched all from her heart. Now there is a wound in the hearts of all who knew her. Betty is predeceased by her husbands Henry Dolny and Jack Richter, her sons Henry and Arthur Dolny, her grandson Joseph Dolny and her great granddaughter Molly Dolny. She is survived by her sons Peter and Henry Dolny, her grandsons Kevin Boone, Michael and James Dolny and her great-grandchildren Joseph, Justin, Ethan, Emma, Joshua, and Charlie Dolny. Viewing will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, located at 85 NM-344 Edgewood, on Friday, May 13th at 9:00 A.M. Recitation of the Rosary and Mass will follow at 10:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. respectively. Burial will take place in Bayshore, Long Island, NY at a future date.
