Edwin Mabry

Chief Petty Officer USN (Ret.) Edwin “Ed” Mabry, 48, resident of Moriarty, NM passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:02 PM, due to complications with Huntington’s disease. Ed was born July 18, 1966 at the Sandia Army Base in Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Mabry and Jean Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Romero-Mabry, son Bryan, daughter Angela of Moriarty, brother Bruce of New Zealand, step-mother Michyo of Japan, in-laws Pat and Gloria Romero of Moriarty, and three nephews and five nieces. Ed graduated from Moriarty High School in 1985 and followed his dreams and father’s footsteps by joining the United States Navy. On September 6, 1986 he married his high school sweetheart, Patty. He was a dedicated family man who went above and beyond for his wife and children. Throughout his life he taught others to appreciate the time they are given, and to not take a single second of it for granted. His Naval career offered him the chance to travel the world as a Parachute Rigger (PR), and presented many opportunities to achieve the impossible. His duty stations included: Great Lakes, IL., Lakehurst, NJ., Point Mugu, CA., Dallas, TX., North Island, CA., Miramar, CA., Pensacola, FL., Bremerton, WA., and China Lake, CA. After an 18 year career in the Navy, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7) in August 2003 to Moriarty, NM after being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease in 2001, to be surrounded and cared for by his friends and family. After his diagnosis, Ed enjoyed spending quality time with his family, reminiscing about his time in the Navy, and battling Huntington’s disease with strength, determination, and an undefeatable spirit. A Public Viewing is planned for Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, New Mexico. The Rosary is to be recited at 7:00 PM. The Celebration of Mass will be on Thursday June 11, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. At the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, New Mexico. Father Moses to Officiate. Interment will be on Monday June 15, 2015 at 9:45 A.M. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Pallbearers are Chris Taylor, Tony Romero, George Plant, Brian Thompson, Patrick Romero and Mike Briody.
