Luther “Luke” Porter died peacefully at his home on January 30, 2015 in Corona, New Mexico at the age of 83.
Luke is survived by his son Leon Porter and his wife Roby of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter Barbara DeRoy and her husband Joe of Dallas, Texas; step-son Harold Porter of Thermopolis, Wyoming; his sisters Charlene Scrimshire and her husband Wesley of Okemah, Oklahoma; and Vivian Buxton of Roswell, New Mexico; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Barbara Porter, daughter Lina Jean Porter, and his second wife of 8 years Carol Porter.
Luke was born on April 19, 1931 in Corona, New Mexico to Charley and Lucille Porter. He graduated from Corona High School and joined the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Korean War, Luke returned home and went to work for LandAir a Division of Dynalectron at White Sands Missile Range and lived in Socorro, New Mexico. Luke spent over 38 years at White Sands Missile Range working and living in various locations but ended his career at Alamo Peak with the mobile telemetry division. His residence during the majority of his career with White Sands was in Tularosa, New Mexico where he raised his family.
Luke was an accomplished Electronics Technician and general repair man often helping others repair broken items. He was a witty individual who loved ranching, and the outdoors. He loved hunting with his brother Charles and other family members and friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for February 6, 2015 at the Corona High Auditorium at 1:00 p.m., with a pot luck luncheon preceding the services at the High School Rec Room at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Terry Aiello will officiate the ceremony with Grace Fellowship in Christ. Pallbearers will be Michael Porter, Lance Adams, Colt Adams, Curtis Young, Paul Henley, Bill Carter, Larry Stanesic and Robert Stewart. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Luke’s life. The family would like to thank Kayla Luras, Paul Henley, and Bill and Bertha Carter for their efforts, care, and dedication.
