John Stephen Richter

December 17, 1925 — December 23, 2014

John Stephen Richter Sr. 89, of Edgewood, New Mexico peacefully passed away on December 23, 2014. John was born on December 17, 1925 in Lawrence, Long Island, N.Y. to John and Marie (Lamont) Richter. John served in World War II on the battleship, USS California, in the Pacific Theatre. He received the Purple Heart Award when his ship was struck by a Kamikaze Plane. His ship also participated in the Philippine Liberation as well as various other engagements throughout the Pacific during WWII. During his lifetime, John was a true craftsman and an avid pilot. Among his accomplishments are hand building a private bi-plane as well as the construction of many homes in both New York and New Mexico. As an active member of the Catholic faith, he used his skills in the construction of pews for both the Moriarty Catholic Church and the San Martin De Porres in addition to the steeple on the Catholic Church in Estancia. John is preceded in death by both his parents, his brother Harry Richter, Sister Evelyn Brain and Son William David Richter. John is survived by his Wife Elizabeth M. Richter; Son John Richter Jr. and Wife MaryLou; Stepsons Peter and Henry Dolny and Brother Jerry Richter. John was blessed with 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Services will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Edgewood, New Mexico. Viewing will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by the reciting of the Rosary at 10:00 AM and Celebration of Mass at 11:00 AM.
