Our Loving father Ernest Eugene Gutierrez left us way too soon. The void in our hearts can only be filled with the memories of his faith leadership and unconditional love. Ernest was born on November 1st, 1950 to Vigilio Gutierrez and Josefita Moya Gutierrez in la Plaza Vieja near Chilili NM. He was a graduate of Manzano High School. He passionately served as a Lieutenant of the Bernalillo County Fire Department. He truly loved his work and his fellow fire fighters. He made many friends in his professional life.
In his personal life Ernest continued his spirit of service. He loved to lead and direct others and he was the leader of the Chilili choir for many years. He was also the director of catechism in Chilili and taught many children the importance of loving and serving Christ. His other areas of service included 4-H, St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Chilili Rodeo Club. After his retirement Ernest spent the remainder of his life with his close friends and family. His greatest joy was cooking and spending time with his beloved sister Rose and his 14 grandchildren.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents Vigilio Gutierrez and Josefita Moya Gutierrez and brother Fernando Filimon Gutierrez. He is survived by his four sons Mathew Gutierrez and his four children of Estancia NM, Andrew F. Gutierrez and his wife Venessa Chavez Gutierrez and daughter of Tajique, NM, James Gutierrez and his wife Janell Gutierrez and three children of Tajique, NM, Daniel Joseph Gutierrez and his wife Sophia Chavez and six children of Tajique, NM; Mary Gutierrez of Tajique, NM; and brothers Elias Gutierrez, Orlando Gutierrez, Gilbert Gutierrez, Elfigo Gutierrez, Frank Gutierrez,Manuel Gutierrez, and Rose and Noe Gutierrez.
There will be a Rosary recited at 6:00pm on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Chilili, NM. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10:30am also at San Juan Nepomuceno Church in Chilili, NM with Fr. John Conway officiating. Pallbearers will be Noe Gutierrez Jr., Dominic Gutierrez, Daniel Gutierrez, Antonio Gutierrez, Santiago Tenorio, Josh Gutierrez, Fidel Lesperance, and Max Gutierrez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack, Arthur, Nekko Gutierrez, James Gutierrez Jr. and Francisco Gutierrez. Burial will follow the service at the Chilili Catholic Cemetery.
