Helen Marie Burson

HELEN MARIE BURSON, 84, of Moriarty, New Mexico peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, September 26, 2014. Helen was born May 13, 1930 in Albuquerque, NM to Charles and Ermal Demaris (Greenfield) John. Helen was a bookkeeper at Mikes Friendly Store and El Comador for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star – Chapter 33 in Estancia, a past trustee of Bethel Methodist Church in Moriarty and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Moriarty Heritage Arena. Helen was loved by all and will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Both sets of her grandparents, Charles and Cora Greenfield and Henry and Filomona John homesteaded west of Moriarty in the early 1900’s. Helen graduated Moriarty HS at age 15 and UNM at age 19. Helen was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ermal John; 3 husbands, Sam Burson, who passed away in 1991, Don Town who passed away in 1997, and Bill Haley who passed away in 2006; daughter Mary Burson; and son John Burson. She is survived by her son Thomas W. Burson of Moriarty, NM; daughters Anne M. Current and her husband Loren of Valle de Oro, TX and Samantha L. Pipkins and her husband Roger of Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law Nelda Burson of Tucumcari, NM 9 grandchildren Helen Fitzner, Sandra Santoya, Michelle Morrison, Colton (Susan) Current, David (Carrie) White, T. Adam Goddard, J.C. (Jennifer) Burson, Sara (Charles) Bock, Steven Burson; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 10:00am at Bethal United Methodist Church in Moriarty. Pallbearers will be J.C. Burson, David White, Adam Goddard, Colton Current, Steven Burson and Charles Bock. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Anaya, Filandro Anaya and Ralph Anaya. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty, NM.
