Louis Melvin Chavez

LOUIS MELVIN CHAVEZ, 64, of Estancia, NM passed away at his home on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Louis was born January 31, 1950 in Grants, NM to Cruz and Elena (Martinez) Chavez. Louis was a Navy Veteran. He had lived in Estancia for the past six years having previously lived in Gallup, NM. He married his loving wife of forty-one years Arlene C. Baca on July 28, 1973 in Carlsbad, NM. Together they raised four children. Louis was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. Louis was preceded in death by his parents Cruz and Elena Chavez and brothers Serafin and Florencio Chavez. He is survived by his wife Arlene C. Chavez of Estancia; son Louis Chavez Jr. of McIntosh; daughters Dorothy Mares and her husband Phillip of McIntosh, Victoria Chavez of Estancia and Nicole Chavez of Estancia; brother Cruz Chavez; sisters Ann Chavez, Lydia Holguin, Gloria Chavez, Cynthia Chavez and Theresa Chavez; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. There will be a Rosary recited on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 7:00pm at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty with Rev. Fr. Robert Lancaster. Pallbearers will be Louis Chavez Jr., Phillip Mares, Angelo Montoya, Marcus Howe, Steven Montoya, and D-Angelo Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ceara Montero, Brianna Montero, Erianna Chavez, Arlene Chavez, Louie Chavez III, Cisco Chavez, Alicia Howe, Nicolette Howe, Leiloni Chavez, Kawani Montoya, Alexis Lopez, Anjoli Lopez, Mia Montoya, Adelina Chavez, Benita Chavez, and Xavier Chavez. Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 2:15pm also on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 with Deacon Juan Martinez officiating.
