A much loved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, AB McKinley, 90, a life resident of Mountainair passed away peacefully at his home on June 27th, 2014 accompanied by his family. He was born in Mountainair, NM on October 26th, 1923 to parents Andrew Baile McKinley and Bessie Burton Autrey.
AB will always be remembered as a loving and caring man that never turned down the opportunity to go fishing or try fixing anything broken. AB had many passions in his life but none were greater than the love he had for his wife June. Sweethearts since elementary school the two were inseparable throughout their lives together and now will be reunited.
Before AB took on the role of full-time fix-it man and fisherman he served honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Flight Gunner conducting 35 combat missions and over 250 combat flight hours. After the war, AB returned home and worked for the Far Bean Company and later the Williams & Howe Hardware in Mountainair for 15 years. AB’s most memorable career was as the Mountainair Postmaster where he retired after 20 years of government service.
AB was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Winalee “June” Perkins and son Michael McKinley of Mountainair. He is survived by his daughter Donna Akin, son Mitchell McKinley and wife Rita; grandchildren Cindy, Jaimee, Jay, Cody, and Andrew; and great grandchildren Michael, Gabriel, Ashleigh, Jalaia, Saniah, Naaman.
Graveside services will be held at Mountainair Cemetery at 10am on Sunday, June 29th.
