BARBARA ANN CAVASOS, age 75 of Moriarty, NM passed away at home in the early morning hours of June 6, 2014 surrounded by family. Barbara was born September 27, 1938 in Cleburne, TX to Rackell A. and Opal Mae (Brown) Hill. Barbara lost her birth parents at an early age and was lovingly raised by the only parents she knew, her paternal uncle and aunt, Doc and Ruby Hill. She moved to Edgewood, NM with her family in 1945 where they owned and operated The Midway Restaurant and Curios. She married her true love Howard Cavasos on June 10, 1954. She was a meticulous homemaker taking pride in her home and surroundings. After her children were grown she worked as a cashier at Mike's Friendly Store in Moriarty for many years. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and going to the casino where she spent many happy hours. Barbara was a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son William David Cavasos and wife Amy of Moriarty, grandson David James Cavasos and many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Chloe. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Cavasos, son Danny Ray Cavasos, parents Doc and Ruby Hill, sisters Edna Maye McClure and Betty Hill, and brother Michael Hill. Special thanks to Michelle Coe and Hilda Rivera-Horton for gracious, kind and compassionate care in Barbara’s last weeks on earth. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, June 11th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM. The service will be on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:00am also at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary with Pastor Dave Goodnight officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Alderson, Ernest Cavasos, Larry Gallant, Brett Garris, James Horton and Kenny McClure. Honorary Pallbearers will be DJ Cavasos, Joey Fieldgrove, Michael G. Hill, Dennis Shantfelt, Albert Thompson and JT Turner. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty.
