Alfred "Al" E. Kempenich Jr.

February 21, 1930 — June 1, 2013

ALFRED” AL” E. KEMPENICH JR. of Santa Fe, NM passed away peacefully on June 1, 2013 at the age of 83. Al was born May 21, 1930 in Albuquerque to Alfred E. Sr. and Mabel Ruth. Al was a dedicated husband, father and friend. Al is survived by his wife Marlyn of 47 years; a daughter Janice, a son Robert and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister; Lorraine Kahn of Santa Fe. Al was a Korean War Navy Veteran who served on the USS Hopewell as a boiler house operator and was awarded numerous medals; including the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Al graduated with honors from St. Michael’s College in 1961 with a BA in accounting and he retired from the State of NM in 1987. Al and Marlyn were married in El Paso, TX on April 17, 1966. After a brief ceremony they celebrated by attending the dog races with their brother and sister-in-law; Larry and Dorothy. Alfred and Marlyn were avid square dancers and took advantage of every opportunity to put a fishing line in the water, making Heron Lake a regular stop. They enjoyed attending barbed wire shows with friends, and after retirement traveled coast-to-coast in their RV never passing a flea market without stopping to take a look. Alfred enjoyed keeping his cars spic-n-span and was known to even take a chamois to his neighbor’s car. Al will be remembered for always being busy, tinkering with one thing or another. We all have memories of AL that bring a smile to our faces and for that Al Kempenich, thank you! There will be a Grave Side Service at the Stanley Cemetery on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 1:30pm with Pastor Goodnight officiating. Pallbearers will be Leo Dennisson, William Smith, Wesley Dennisson, Jerry Boxberger, Fred Reynolds and Dan Sowle. There will be a gathering after the service at Larry & Dorothy’s residence.
