Odes Harold Caster
12/27/1937 -12/27/2012
His last wish was that he would live to his 75th birthday and he passed away peacefully knowing that his final goal on this earth was accomplished. Odes was a native New Mexican, born and raised in the Mountainair /Ewing area and eventually moving to Albuquerque. To his family he was known as “Uncle Harold” and was very much loved by all. He was a pillar and cornerstone for our family and his presence at all our family events and celebrations will be sorely missed.
Odes was preceded in death by both his parents, Odes Brooks Caster and Mabel Edith Caster, as well as his siblings Wes Caster, Barbara Dills and Bessie Chapel.
He is survived by his younger brother William Caster, his wife Cassie Caster and younger sister Rowena Metzger, her husband Jerry Metzger, his older sister Bertha McMath, her husband Jack McMath, his sister in law Jackie Caster and numerous nieces and nephews and their families that loved him dearly.
Odes will also be missed by those who knew him from his service in the Army to the numerous friends he met in his 31 years as a US Department of Agriculture Inspector. He also will be missed by the many friends in his country dance group with whom he met regularly and at the Bob Wills Music Festival every third week in April at Turkey, Texas.
Odes loved animals, especially dogs and “Appaloosa” horses. He was a sportsman and rancher, a great brother, uncle and friend.
Memorial Services will be held at Harris/Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair NM at 10am on Monday the 31st of December 2012. A graveside service will be held at Estancia Cemetery immediately following with a reception back at his family home (Grandma Mabel’s) in Mountainair.
