Robert Gordon Mathews

ROBERT GORDON MATHEWS, 80, of Belen, NM peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Robert was born July 27th, 1932 in Mountainair, NM to Robert Lee and Lela Mae (McKinley) Mathews. Robert was an Air Force Veteran. He served as County Commissioner in the mid 1980’s, was a lifetime member of the NRA and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Robert married Betty JoAnn Robinson on December 18, 1951; they had three sons, Robert Jr., Marvin and Wayne. He retired from work with a drilling crew for the Highway Department. Robert was a member of the Mountainair Christian Center. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty JoAnn Mathews. Robert is survived by his sons, Robert G. Mathews Jr. and his wife Debbie of Veguita, Marvin L. Mathews and his wife Jacque of Grants, and Wayne L. Mathews and his wife Melodie of Belen; brothers, Jack Mathews and his wife Jean of Mountainair, NM, Guy Mathews and his wife Judy of Moody, TX, John Mathews and his wife Karen “Cookie” of Mountainair, NM and Warren Mathews and his wife Donna of Moriarty, NM; sister Winnie Castleman of Belen, NM; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. There will be a Funeral Service on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 10:00AM at the Assembly of God Church in Mountainair, NM. Burial will follow at the Mathews Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cody Mathews, Duane Mathews, Lance Mathews, Clayton Mathews, Cody Mathews Jr. and Frank Sidwell.
