Roberta Louise Oney

ROBERTA ONEY, was born May 1, 1930 in Borger, Texas. She passed away in Los Lunas, New Mexico. She was the eldest daughter of Riss and Lola Bishop. Roberta graduated from Mountainair High School in 1948. She marred JP “Pooch” Oney April 4, 1949 in Bernalillo, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband Pooch, parents Riss and Lola Bishop, sister Edith and brothers in law Eldon Steele and Bill Wootres. Roberta was homemaker and rancher. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Mountainair. She served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, helped plan dinners and kept the church kitchen running smoothly. She was a member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers. Roberta loved taking care of her ranch, going for walks, baking cookies for her grandkids, attending church and visiting with her friends and neighbors. As a young girl living at the ranch in 1945 she was an eyewitness of the first atomic bomb. She is survived by son, Monty Oney and wife Donna, son, Mickey Oney and wife Laura; daughter, Laura Jones and husband Ken; sisters, Laveda Steele and Vivian Wootres; eight grandchildren; Cindy Hoefs, Sonya Tafoya, Aleta Muniz, Anthony Oney, Jacob Oney, Kristin Oney, John Oney, Kyle Jones, Klayton Jones and nine great-grandchildren. Roberta’s family would like to thank the administrators and staff of Lakeview Manor in Los Lunas. We greatly appreciate the love, care and attention you gave our mother during her time there. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mountainair on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 11:00am. Pallbearers: Kyle Jones, Klay Jones, Jacob Oney, Anthony Oney, John Oney, Josh Tafoya. Honorary Pallbearers: Roberta’s nephews and nieces.
