Benito Blas Chavez

BENITO BLAS CHAVEZ, 77, of Moriarty, New Mexico peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, April 10, 2011. Benito was born on February 3, 1934 in Aurora, New Mexico to David and Leonida (Sena) Chavez. Benito had lived in Moriarty for the past twenty seven years having previously lived in Albuquerque, NM. He married Virginia Otero who preceded him in death in 2004. Benito was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his sons, Benny Chavez, Jr., Richard Chavez and Julie Maes, Vincent Otero and his wife Christine, and Paul Samuel Ortega and his wife Cherie; daughters, Beatrice Carlile and her husband Jim, Laura Astorga and her husband Tony and Betty Jean Ortega; brothers, Frank Chavez and Faby, Robert Chavez and his wife Aggie, Pete Chavez and his wife Lydia, David Chavez and his wife Irma; sisters, Cecilia Brown and her husband Howard, Flora Chavez and her husband Art, Helen Cuaron and her husband Leonard, Sarah Perea and her husband Leroy, and Alice Lucero; twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 9:00am to 10:00am at the Moriarty Civic Center. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00am at the Moriarty Civic Center in Moriarty, NM with Brother Lopez officiating. Burial will follow the service at Stanley Cemetery in Stanley, NM. Pallbearers will be Chris Ragland, Matthew Chavez, Ben Jay Chavez, Luke Carlile, Tony Ray Astorga and Montana Otero. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Carlile, Tony Astorga, Vincent Otero and Richard Chavez.
