CARLOS ELIAS LOPEZ, 85, of Estancia, New Mexico peacefully passed away with his loving family surrounding him on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Carlos was born April 11, 1927 in Cañada Bonita – Ocate, New Mexico to Lorenzo and Juanita (Lucero) Lopez. Carlos was a longtime resident of the Estancia Valley. He married his loving wife of 64 years, Frances Quintana, on September 18, 1948 in Wagon Mound, NM. Together they had and raised six sons and four daughters. Carlos was a retired Social Worker for CYFD for the state of NM. Carlos was an active member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Estancia. He, along with his wife, Frances served as mayordamos, caring for and maintaining the church, and they were very involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Juanita Lopez; son, Paul Michael Lopez; brothers, Simon, Albert, Eloy and Moises Lopez; mother-in-law, Aurelia Baca; sisters-in-law, Helen Montano, Agnes Lopez, Mary Lou Baca; and brother-in-law Bialquin Baca. He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Carlos V. Lopez, Alfred L. Lopez and his wife Sal, Robert A. Lopez, Donald R. Lopez and his wife Sandy; and Joseph F. Lopez and his wife Kim; daughters, Connie Smith and her husband, Frank, Marie Lopez, Cecilia Baca and her husband Don and Loretta Lopez; brother, Jose Antonio (Tony) Lopez; eighteen grandchildren and twelve ½ great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 7:00pm at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Estancia, NM. Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 21, 2012at 10:00am also at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Robert Lancaster officiating. Pallbearers will be Carlos Lopez, Jr. Alfred Lopez, Robert Lopez, Donald Lopez, Joseph Lopez, and Stacy Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tony Lopez, David Lopez, and Veronica Lujan. He will be laid to rest at the Estancia Cemetery in Estancia, NM following the Mass.
